Jaw Imbalance: Preparing for Surgery
Your surgeon will tell you specifically what to do to prepare for your surgery.

Here are a few general guidelines that you should follow:
  1. Do not eat or drink anything for eight hours before surgery (if you have morning surgery, do not eat or drink anything after midnight the night before).

  2. Minors must have a parent or legal guardian sign a consent form.

  3. Brush your teeth and cleanse your mouth the morning of your surgery to help avoid infection.

  4. Wear loose clothing with short sleeves. No turtlenecks.

  5. Do not wear contact lenses.

  6. Do not wear eye makeup, heavy face makeup, wigs or hairpieces.

  7. Have an icepack available for use at home.

  8. Prescriptions and post-operative instructions will be given the day of surgery. In addition, an appointment for a post-operative visit will be made.
