My teeth are rather worn down from years of grinding and clenching. Can I still wear braces? |

Teeth that are worn down from years of grinding and clenching can absolutely have braces placed. In fact, placing the braces and hanging the bite will probably improve the bite, which will help eliminate the clenching and grinding habit. As long as teeth are well cared for and gums are in good condition braces are an option, no matter what the age of the patient. If patients have significant clenching or grinding habits, "bumpers" can be placed on the braces to prevent damage to the teeth or to the braces. And, if a patient has a severe grinding or clenching habit, a mouthpiece or "splint" can be placed during treatment to help break the patient of their habit. |
